maps of features on the surface of the moon, with colors representing size of the feature. the latter image’s colors are non-contiguous since the vectors are stitched together and the color scales are localized to the individual vectors/pieces of the moon— a nice mistake. (qgis)
big green-to-red cells are doctors. each smaller contained red circle is a person who died, with drugs prescribed by those doctors (hydrocodone, morphine, etc) in their system. the clusters are a result of doctors connected by a death (or deaths). large clusters may suggest doctors who prescribe medication liberally, or someone going to multiple doctors for the same prescriptions. names redacted. work from an old job that never got published.
foreclosures in alameda county, 2007-2011. different colors/styles. includes some maps from a tiny app i made that searches the database of foreclosures for specific banks/deed-holders (Wells Fargo and Deutsche Bank shown).
alameda county foreclosures (showing oakland, berkeley, part of hayward), 2007-2011, hexbinned. color scale goes from blue to red, and is determined by absolute number of foreclosures in that bin (max=153). figured since i’m already grouping by census blocks, i might as well use a standard unit of measure. data from OpenOakland, map tiles from Stamen. this one’s for my map nerds. i’ve been hacking on a svg-to-map-tile script, and i got polymaps to display some of the tiles it created from a svg. if you’re interested in mapping and what goes on under the hood, please check out the script and shoot me some feedback.
